Sri Lanka Travel Guidance & Quick Facts

Everything you need to know before packing your bags for the pearl of the Indian Ocean.

Category Guidance & Details GOMA HOLDINGS Recommendation
Climate & Seasons Sri Lanka enjoys a warm tropical climate year-round with two alternating monsoons. South/West coast is dry from Dec–April, while the East coast shines from May–September. Travel is ideal 365 days a year—we route your trip to whichever side of the island has dry, sunny weather!
Visa / ETA International tourists must obtain an Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) online prior to boarding flights, usually valid for 30–60 days. Apply only via the official government ETA portal. Our team provides fast verification assistance for booked guests.
Currency & Payments The local currency is the Sri Lankan Rupee (LKR). Major credit cards (Visa, MasterCard) are accepted in hotels and upscale restaurants. Keep modest cash (LKR 500 & 1000 notes) handy for rural craft stalls, king coconut stands, and temple donations.
Temple Etiquette Modest clothing is strictly required at sacred sites: shoulders and knees must be covered. Shoes and hats must be removed before entry. We provide clean temple shawls and cotton wraps in all our private tour vehicles for guest comfort.
Transport & Safety Driving standards and mountain switchbacks can be challenging for foreigners. Private chauffeur-guides are the gold standard. All GOMA HOLDINGS vehicles feature GPS tracking, emergency first-aid, full passenger insurance, and vetted drivers.
